10 tips for a fabulous cruise...

I thought that this week I’d chat about 10 things you can do to make sure that you have a fabulous cruise experience. Let’s roll!

Choose the right cruise line. As your travel expert, I’ll ask the questions that will help me determine the cruise line that’s right for you. My recommendation for a family probably won’t be the same for a couple looking to relax and enjoy a more premium experience.

Arrive to your port of embarkation a day (at least) early. Don’t worry about flying in the morning of a cruise, delayed flights and jet lag!

Have an embarkation day tradition. Typically I grab a snack, cocktail and explore. As soon as my stateroom is ready I unpack (get it out of the way) and then continue my exploring and attend sailaway.

Review the newsletter of the ship, nightly. Have a pen or highlighter handy so you can highlight the activities you’re interested for the next day.

Try to book shore excursions prior to departure. To ensure availability this is strongly suggested.

If you’re unable to book shore excursions, dining or shows (if needed) prior to departure, do so first thing upon embarkation. This tip will hopefully help you avoid the crowds at guest services or the shore excursion desk.

Be kind to the staff and crew.  These kids work so hard, sometimes in two roles and are doing all they can to make your experience memorable. Ask questions, start a convo, ask about their family.

If you’re a spa-goer and it’s going to be your cruise highlight, try to book services on a port day. Because most people disembark in port, the spa could offer some great deals for those who stay onboard. Check your daily newsletter.

Don’t overplan.  I know that person (will remain nameless) who just goes goes goes. Breakfast, excursion, lunch, ship tour, dinner, show, comedy club, trivia, bingo, piano bar. Sleep and repeat. You’re on vacation so try to RELAX!

Be flexible. As you know things can happen! Weather can be iffy, itineraries can change, excursions can be cancelled or changed at the last minute. Go with the flow and know that the cruise line is doing their best to keep you happy and safe!

So, what are your tips for a fabulous cruise?  Shoot me an email and let me know! Next week we’ll look at the other end of the spectrum.
